Chin Keeler and Emma Tornero

Chin Keeler and Emma Tornero work collaboratively. They trade ideas and thoughts to break through to a common goal, suspending their individual artistic vision and preconceived ideas in an animated dialogue of polar styles. Both work on the same piece at the same time, intuitively sourcing imagery or deliberating on a concept or theme, negotiating spontaneity and intent, fusing Chin's immediacy with Emma's precision.

They describe their collaborative experience as 'scary, uncomfortable, frustrating but ultimately rewarding and exciting', and in this way they create images in which the impossible emerges as something perfectly natural, making their chaotic disregard for reality as plausible as ordered representation.

Drawing & Painting

Led by a love and a voracious appetite for cultural imagery and collecting, KEELERTORNERO draw inspiration from diverse sources: B-movies, nature programmes, architecture, pornography, pop culture ephemera, comic books, anatomy, animation, mythology, and many more strange and wonderful places. The nature of their collaborative process means that in some works their styles coexist as visibly distinct while in others they merge seamlessly to sustain a convincing unified vision.

Design & Illustration

Chin Keeler and Emma Tornero create design and illustration commissions for music publishing, poster and flyer artwork, stage backdrops, painted environments for photo shoots and shop graphics. They conceptualise and produce comprehensive editorial/design projects such as mini-zines for cultural institutions and commercial clients, remixing creatures and objéts from the pages of their illustrious library of treasured charity shop reference books with their own brand of imagination and humour.

For their three-dimensional and installation work KEELERTORNERO manipulate junk, recycled and found materials to create environments sometimes complemented with performance, sound and projections. With a love of car-boot sales and second hand shops they regularly drag back inanimate victims to their studio to be dissected and transformed into the characters playing parts in an all-encompassing illusory world – a place of dreams, hallucinations and unkempt fantasy, parallel dimensions inhabited by strange beings, beasts and insects living out their lives just beyond our peripheral vision.
